Indoor Creative Explorations

Art & Studio Art
Studio Art follows the seven elements of art throughout the semester: line, shape, space, value, color, texture, and form. Participants explore why art is an important form of communication and learn to express themselves through color choices, line expressions, and forms. Using a variety of mediums, students develop their own creative voice. The class culminates in a semester-end art show displaying participants’ work.

Painting
Students explore the wonder of color using the wet-on-wet technique. Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, the class emphasizes the unique qualities of each color and how to blend, layer, and express emotion through painting.

Sculpture
Students learn techniques and processes for working with clay to create items of beauty and utility. Emphasis is placed on hands-on exploration, form, texture, and personal creative expression in three dimensions.

Nature Craft
This class encourages creative expression using materials found in nature. Participants learn crafting techniques with wood, fiber, clay, and plant-based elements, while developing skills in gathering and preparing materials from the environment. The course emphasizes ecological awareness, sustainability, and the harmony between art and nature.

Art & Craft: Handwork
“The human hand is an amazing tool, equipped with strength, sensitivity, and memory.” Participants explore plant-dyed yarn and techniques such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving, and spinning. Students begin with simple projects and gradually progress to embroidery, loom knitting, and machine sewing, cultivating fine motor skills, patience, and creativity.

Art & Craft: Woodworking
Participants learn woodworking from skilled carpenters, starting with basic techniques and progressing to the creation of functional and artistic items such as furniture, utensils, toys, candle and crystal holders, and carved bowls. Students also contribute to community projects, repair wooden items, and have opportunities to sell their work locally and nationwide.

Music – Vocal (Chorus)

In this class, participants discover their voices and learn to sing in harmony with others. Students explore rhythm, melody, rounds, and simple part-singing using a songbook for visual support. Clapping, stomping, and movement help develop rhythm and coordination. They also learn basic elements of music and simple composition to express themselves creatively through singing.

Music – Instrumental

Participants explore the tones, rhythms, and harmonies of various instruments while gaining a basic understanding of how music works. They also learn simple composition and music structure, using instruments as tools for creative self-expression. Guided by skilled instructors, students develop confidence, coordination, and creativity as they discover music as a form of personal expression.

Culinary Arts Program

Culinary Art

This course introduces the art and discipline of healthy cooking through hands-on learning. Participants develop proficiency with essential kitchen tools, practice fundamental techniques such as chopping, mixing, sautéing, and baking, and learn to read and interpret recipes with accuracy and confidence. Step by step, they gain independence in preparing complete meals—measuring ingredients, managing timing, and working safely and efficiently in a shared kitchen space. As their skills grow, participants are encouraged to create their own original recipes, exploring flavors, textures, and presentation with creativity. The curriculum emphasizes mindful preparation, balanced nutrition, and the creation of meals that support a sustainable, health-conscious lifestyle, while cultivating confidence, responsibility, and joy in cooking.

Baking

In this hands-on baking class, participants create a variety of baked goods, from breads, scones, crackers, and muffins to cookies and desserts. Students learn to read and understand recipes, measure ingredients accurately, and work safely in a shared kitchen environment. Through collaborative projects, participants practice baking techniques—including dough preparation, mixing, and oven use—while discovering recipes they can recreate at home. Suitable for beginners and experienced bakers alike, this class encourages skill-building, teamwork, and the joy of freshly made treats.

Exploratory Learning

In this class, participants combine Japanese language instruction with traditional art exploration to immerse themselves in Japan’s cultural heritage. Students develop skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening while exploring flower arrangement, tea manner, folk dance, origami, seasonal crafts, and simple Japanese cooking. This integrated approach nurtures both linguistic ability and cultural appreciation.

In this class, participants boost reading skills and connect with others through the joy of books. Students explore short novels and classic stories, examining style, context, and themes in an interactive way. Creative exercises—such as drawing scenes or making predictions—enhance comprehension and engagement. Through discussion and shared reflection, students develop understanding and a lifelong love of reading.

Science Lab

In this class, participants learn through hands-on exploration and discovery. Using experiments, observations, and creative projects, they explore concepts in chemistry, physics, and biology. Students use real materials and tools to investigate, mix, measure, build, and test. The focus is curiosity, experimentation, and learning through direct experience, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a sense of wonder.

Theater

In this class, you learn the foundational skills of acting, expression, and stage communication through clear demonstrations and structured practice. The instructor teaches how to use your voice, posture, facial expression, and gesture to convey emotion and intention. You practice projecting your voice, speaking clearly, and controlling breath while learning how movement and stillness affect the audience’s understanding.

You also study basic acting techniques such as character creation, improvisation, and simple scene work. The instructor demonstrates how to enter a scene, respond to a partner, and maintain focus. You learn how to read short scripts, understand cues, and practice memorization strategies. Ensemble exercises strengthen timing, cooperation, and awareness of others on stage.

By the end of the course, you develop stronger confidence in speaking, expressing emotions, and participating in small performances. The skills learned support communication, creativity, and teamwork both on and off the stage.
